ECOPORTIL project aims to improve the quality of the environment of ports and surrounding coastal areas by supporting their sustainability through of advanced methodologies and good practices in line with European and national legislation as well as through innovative tools and training methods and capacity building of stakeholders in ports and nearby coastal areas as a measure to prevent pollution and conserve natural marine resources.
The project ECOPORTIL aims to contribute to:
- Sustainable maritime sector able to balance between the needs of shipping transportation, the commercial port activities and the environmental protection measures and EU/national legislations;
- Sustainable Blue growth, the main goal of Europa 2020 strategy. The introduction of the environment management systems (EMS) in the maritime sector and port related activities with the contribution of ICT tools and integrated training education and lifelong learning methods/ practices for these sectors is considered of great importance towards Blue Growth and the climate change resilience.
Project Tasks:
- Establish networks and working groups on issues related to the design, coordination and operation of integrated transport and mobile services and multimodal practices in port areas;
- Developing and / or integrating existing transnational environmental risk and risk management systems, procedures and systems, planning methodologies, management plans, sustainability and adaptation assessments;
- Design and implementation of geographic information system for optimal visualization of the environmental parameters;
- Special training courses to improve stakeholder knowledge and overcome the information gap for incorporating legislation and adopting good environmental practices.
Expected results:
- Regarding environmental legislation (collecting essential information) and providing specialized education and training courses and seminars and creating an integrated learning content that will contribute to lifelong learning as the relevant educational material will be accessible beyond the life cycle of the project, and
- Improve environmental monitoring through advanced ICT methods and tools. In particular, there will be developed and expanded:
- ICT tools to monitor environmental issues with respect to larger port areas;
- ICT tools for collecting, organizing and providing up-to-date content of legislation and information material;
- Specific training courses for port stakeholders and public administration employees;
- Exchange of experience and mobility among public administration employees;
- A common model for ecological and sustainable development of ports in the Balkan – Mediterranean region.
