The second project of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company has been approved and will be implemented under the Transport Connectivity Program 2021-2027.

The duration of the project for the rehabilitation of the breakwater at the Port of Burgas is 38 months, with the grant funding secured under the program amounting to slightly over BGN 38,000,000.

A procedure for the selection of a contractor has already been announced.

The project's implementation aims at the reconstruction and modernization of the old breakwater in Burgas, which, due to years of exposure to external factors – primarily natural phenomena such as strong winds, large waves, and degraded armor from artificial elements –has suffered significant structural damage.

The project involves raising the height of the breakwater and upgrading its structural components. Through the implementation of the project, not only will its primary function be improved, i.e. ensuring a calm water surface in the port's water area, but a completely new feature will be added: a pedestrian walkway with public access.

The activities planned for the implementation of the project will result in the overall improvement of port infrastructure, increased safety of navigation and port facilities, and contribute to the provision of higher-quality port services within the Port of Burgas area.
