More than 200 participants took part in the traditional swimming marathon in Varna

The Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) supported the 83rd International Swimming Marathon “Galata – Varna” that took place on 06.08.2023 (Sunday). Daren Kirilov from Ruse and Gabriela Georgieva from Sofia achieved the fastest times, swimming the distance between Cape Galata and the second seashore embankment at the Varna beach – 55.30 min. and 58.11 min., respectively. The fastest swimmers in the competition received special awards from BPI Co.
216 participants from Bulgaria, Belgium, the UK, Germany, among others, measured their strength, courage and endurance. Among them was BPI Co. employee Momchil Belchev from Ruse, who swam the entire marathon course. The straight-line distance of the competition route is 4 400 m, but because it is impossible to swim straight, without clear corridors, the actual distance to be covered by the swimmers in order to finish, is around 5 000 m.
The sports competition, which has become a real celebration in Varna, takes place on the first Sunday of August each year. Swimmers from all around the world, aged at least 12 years, are allowed to participate. The event is organized by the Professional Sports Club “Cherno More”, the Varna Municipality and the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria.
