We monitor traffic on the Danube with the latest generation of technology
10 Септември 2022
The growth in the intensity of work of the River Information System (BULRIS) in relation to the ships that passed and performed activities through the Bulgarian section of the Danube River for the first 8 months of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, is almost 20%.
From the beginning of 2022 till August 31st, the number of the vessels that have passed are over 7 200 and the maneuvers between berths in the ports along the Danube River, which BULRIS operators have processed, are over 2 9000. In the Port of Ruse, the maneuvers that are processed are over 8 700.
On the 10th of September, 7 years ago, the BULRIS system that is currenntly functioning in its full scope, was launched by the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.). The system provides various means for the exchange of static and dynamic data related to the safe work of skippers, the security of navigation and the protection of the environment along the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube River.
Following the course of constantly developing technologies and the increasing expectations for strictly specialized up-to-date information, BPI Co. is constantly upgrading and expanding the range of services provided by the River Information System. Among the latest innovations is the vessel traffic visualization system (Vessel Tracking and Tracing – VTT), providing additional opportunities to receive up-to-date information on notices to skippers (Notice to Skippers, NTS), virtual navigational aids (AtoN), realtime forecast hydrological and meteorological information.
A step in the improvement of the River Information System, implemented by BPI Co. together with partners from 13 European countries, is the development and implementation of a single European platform (EuRIS) for access to information on inland waterways and electronic reporting system (CEERIS). The developped platforms are the result of the work on the RIS COMEX project. The Single Window service on river is also available for users. To support the work of the responsible institutions, a system for monitoring of non-self-propelled vessels has also been developed. With the help of the specialized vessel BULRIS, equipped with a multibeam echosounder, which maps the profile of the riverbed, surveys are also carried out in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River.
