We are Procuring Highly-Specialized Equipment for Eliminating Operational and Emergency Pollution

20 Април 2021

Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) is in a process of procuring equipment for receiving waste from ship operations, as well as highly specified equipment for the prevention and response to operational and emergency pollution (EPROEP) – motor boats, booms, skimmers and other equipment, in line with the specificities of river and marine environment.

This became clear from the words of Anguel Zabourtov – Director General of BPI Co. during the opening event of the “Delivery, installation and commissioning of port reception facilities (PSP) in Bulgarian ports for public transport of national importance” project. The project is financed through the Operational Programme “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” 2014 – 2020 and national co-financing. The event took place online with significant interest on 20 April 2021 (Tuesday).

BPI Co. has already implemented a number of significant projects, financed by the Operational Programme, implementing and commissioning European level high-tech systems. They contribute to both the security of navigation and security of Bulgaria in general, ranking the country among the top European countries in terms of water transport digitalization. This project takes us a further long step forward, toward achieving a greener Bulgaria, commented Galina Vasileva – the Head of the Managing Authority of “Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure”.

Covered platforms with stationary receiving facilities for separate collection of waste – the result of ship operations, will be constructed in Ruse, Lom, Silistra, Varna and Burgas. In Varna and Burgas, the facilities for receiving ship waste, complement existing facilities and are intended to serve separate areas for small vessels. At the river ports, the receiving facilities form part of the planned overall organization for receiving ship waste.

EPROEP are intended to perform operations in port waters, but if necessary, these can also be used along the entire Bulgarian section of the Danube and at open sea. The installation of the equipment and facilities in containers and Sinistral trailers ensures high level of autonomy and the capability for prompt mobilization and transportation to the place of pollution.

An integrated information platform is also in a process of construction. It will be used to summarize information, control the waste reception activities and the reaction to emergency pollution, as well as to facilitate the coordination between the responsible persons and institutions.
