BPI Co. is modernizing the infrastructure for shore-connected electricity supply of ships for more environmentally-friendly ports
19 Март 2021
Bulgarian Port Infrastructure Company is preparing the infrastructure for supplying ships with electricity from the shore, in order to mitigate pollution, generated by the vessels in the Bulgarian ports. The acceptance of this challenge is related to the implementation of the common European objective for moving to a more competitive and sustainable TEN-T network, through using electricity in marine transport.
In the context of the European Green Deal, aiming at the preparation of the transition to zero greenhouse gas emissions, studies of port equipment, infrastructure, performance characteristics and the safety of the Bulgarian ports will be performed. An analysis of the regulatory framework for on-shore power supply of vessels in ports will be performed, as well as a study of the marine standards and preparation of technical analysis, regarding the necessary infrastructure for on-shore power supply at ports.
The “EALING – European flagship action for cold ironing in ports” aims at the acceleration of the development and implementation of the electrification of ports, participating in the EALING consortium. It is formed by a total of 22 partners from Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Ireland, Portugal and Bulgaria. The project is to be implemented by 2023.
