The worldwide network of port cities – AIVP has turned its eyes to Bulgaria. The prestigious organization accepted in its ranks the managing body of the Bulgarian ports – Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.). The network includes nearly 200 ports and their governing bodies, cities, businesses and NGOs from nearly 40 countries, united by the mission to improve the dialogue between cities and ports.
The Bulgarian port cities of Burgas and Varna are increasingly turning their attention towards the sea. Thanks to BPI Co., on the territory of the two ports there are separate Public Access Zones, open for pedestrians, cyclists and cars. The construction of a Congress Center was completed in Burgas which gives the city the opportunity to host important international events. In Varna, the construction of a modern Maritime Palace is forthcoming, which will preserve our maritime history.
Along with the management of the port infrastructure and the ship traffic, BPI Co. implements a number of projects and is engaged in activities that directly contribute to the positive image of the Bulgarian port cities and their development in the direction of opening up towards sea and river. In addition to the modern vision of the ports, BPI Co. takes care of the creation of a complex public works environment and modern urban centers by providing various types of services. That is why the activities of BPI Co. are closely related to the work of AIVP.
The worldwide network of port cities – AIVP has been monitoring the port-city interaction for over 30 years and has been assisting its members in the implementation of new, working strategies. One of the goals of AIVP is to provide strong support in the creation of synergies between the port and the city, which is vital for the transformation of modern ports into modern, attractive and competitive engines of the economy.
