Special modern equipment for environmental monitoring has been installed at Port of Burgas

A mobile automatic real-time environmental monitoring station, measuring the sea-water and air parameters, has been installed at Port of Burgas. The specialized modern equipment for monitoring the condition of the environment, has been purchased within the ECOPORTIL project.
After a number of training workshops on sustainable environmental management at sea ports that has taken place in the last few months, the project finished successfully with a closing conference on 22 October 2020, which served as an online meeting the project partners from Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus and Albania. The organizer of the forum, where the results of the three years of work of the experts were presented, was Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company.
“We are going through difficult times – the Covid-19 pandemic, but thanks to our joint efforts, we managed to cope with all challenges“, commented Alexander Alexandrov – Deputy Director General of BPI Co. and project manager. He presented the new environmental monitoring equipment and software, installed at the pilot port of this project – Burgas. Mr. Alexandrov also presented the specially developed web application for monitoring the data and equipment maintenance.
“ECOPORTIL provided us with the excellent opportunity to cooperate and contribute to the development of the regions, within the scope of this project. I am optimistic and I’m sure that we will be able to further cooperate and implement other significant projects“, said Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios, from the University of Ioannina, Greece – lead partner in the project.
The “Environmental Protection of Areas Surrounding Ports using Innovative Learning Tools for Legislation – ECOPORTIL“ project was approved for financing under Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “Balkans – Mediterranean“ 2014 – 2020. The project objective is to improve the quality of the environment of the ports and surrounding areas, supporting their sustainability through the application of modern technologies and good practices.
