Ambitious Strategy for the Danube Ports Development prepared by international experts

12 Юни 2019

Strategy with ambitious targets for the development of the Danube ports was prepared by experts from Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) together with their international colleagues within the project DAPhNE. The Team of the Project, which started in early 2017, marked its successful completion with a Final Conference, which took place on June 12, 2019 in Vienna, Austria. In view of the well-done work, the partners were firmly convinced that the completion of DAPhNE project was only the first step towards the beginning of a progressive and successful development of the Danube Region.

The Strategy proposed by the specialists covers a period of eight years (2020 – 2027) and consists of two parts. The first is analytical and the second presents the individual strategic objectives and measures. Based on joint efforts, the current situation is reflected in the respective port industries, taking into account the national specificities in Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, and it proposes opportunities and measures to improve and use the capacity of the region.

Dynamics in the sphere of digitalization requires port authorities to start thinking more and more creatively by breaking standards. Based on this, the suggestion of the experts is to use the conceived strategy in updating national and individual port strategies to the needs of each port individually and to serve as a pivotal pillar for the development of future projects.

BPI Co. is part of international consortium on the project Danube Ports Network /DAPhNE/ with Lead Partner Pro Danube International, Austria. The activities are aimed at improving port legislation and port investment funding, administrative processes, business strategies, and port infrastructure development strategies and facilities. Within the framework of the Project, a network of Danube ports is built, which will allow the ports to reach their full potential of lively economic centres.
