In the presence of Deputy Mayor of Ruse Municipality PhD Strahil Karapchanski, Deputy Governor of Ruse District Valentin Kolev and a number of experts in the field of water transport, on May 21, 2019 in Ruse was opened a specialized exhibition focusing on the advantages and potential for development of freight transport along the Danube. Organized by Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Co., the exhibition, arranged on the ship Ruschuk, presented the results achieved on the international project DBS Gateway Region.
“You prove that despite the limitations, you manage to realize projects of practical value in an international consortium with reputable partners. Our experience shows that the realization of similar multinational projects manages to position the Bulgarian cities, regions, institutions as well as the Bulgarian priorities in the political agenda of the European Union”, said the Deputy Mayor Strahil Karapchanski. For his part, the District Governor Valentin Kolev noted that this project breaks the framework of the traditional bilateral cooperation involving ten countries from the Danube and expressed the belief that the achievement will contribute to better connectivity, attraction of larger volumes of cargoes and for the development of the adjacent regions.
The international project with Bulgarian participation focuses public attention on the problems of the Danube River. Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Ukraine and Moldova are joining forces to reach a common goal: the Danube – Black Sea region to become a “gateway” linking Central Europe and the Black Sea with the Caspian region and the Far East. With the successful completion of the project, concrete proposals will be made for future infrastructure projects that will make a tangible contribution to the development and modernization of water transport. Leading partner is the Regional Government of Lower Austria.
