08 Октомври 2018

On the occasion of the 180th Anniversary of the oldest Bulgarian port Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Co. will open the renewed site on October 18, 2018 (Thursday). By a solemn inauguration, in the presence of officials, current and former port workers, guests and residents of the town of Lom, BPI Co. will present the newly built site – a freight carriageway and the adjacent port infrastructure. Modern pavements, new parking lots, high-tech energy-saving lighting and a solid reinforced concrete fence are only part of the new benefits of the port.

With the ceremony of opening the site, Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Co. will start the celebrations on the occasion of the birthday of Port of Lom, organized with the support of the Municipality of Lom. In honour of the Anniversary of the creation of the Danube port, a thematic postage stamp will be validated, which will please the collector-connoisseurs.

The newly published book of BPI Co., written by the historian-researcher Zoya Apostolova “180 Years Port of Lom” will be presented in the frames of the celebrations. The remarkable and exciting story of the port, told on 180 pages, brings readers back into the bright past to captivate and inspire them. A documentary exhibition, prepared by the Historical Museum of Lom and the State Archives – Montana, will tell the audience about the development of the port over the years. The programme will end with a festive concert in the “Postoyanstvo” Cultural Centre and an impressive pyrotechnic-musical spectacle that will illuminate and echo the sky over Lom will enchant the residents and guests of the town.

The history tells that in the distant 1837, for the first time, an Austrian ship anchors on Lom’s Danube coast. The so-called Lom’s scaffolding (“port pier”) was built in the next year. Thus begins the economic and cultural rise of Lom. 180 years later, the port of Lom continues to play a key role in the overall socio-economic life of the region.
