The Best in Sailing Awarded

Mr. Anguel Zabourtov, Director General of Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) was among the official guests at the ceremony for awarding the annual awards for best sailing achievements. The award ceremony traditionally gathered the sailing community on December 20, 2017 in the building of Varna Municipality. The prestigious event was held with the support of BPI Co. and Mr. Zabourtov handed the prizes to some of the winners.
The most prestigious sailing award in Bulgaria Golden Globe Cor Caroli was received for the fourth consecutive time by the sailor of Kavarna, Dr. Vassil Kurtev. On Monday 17, 2017, in Varna, the 80-year-old seafarer ended his own lonely around the world sailing with the Odessos yacht built by himself, with over 26 000 nautical miles sailed for 21 months.
The Transition Award for the Best Bulgarian Maritime Sailing Achievements of the Year was awarded by the Cor Caroli Foundation chaired by Captain Toma Tomov. The prize was set up to commemorate the celebrated lone sailing of Cap. Georgi Georgiev and bears the name of his yacht.
The date of December 20th is emblematic, as on that day in 1976 from Havana the Cuba, started and a year later finished the world-wide sailing of Cap. Georgiev, entered in the Guinness Book of Record. This year, the Golden Globe Cor Carolli award coincided with the 40th anniversary of the remarkable sailing around the world.
