Giacomo Puccini’s “Il tabarro” Opera was played under an open sky on a barge in the Danube, and the audience applauded the artists from the Sofia Opera and Ballet from the Quay Wall, where were built stands with 700 seats with the assistance of Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company.

The performance was part of the “Fortress of the Ages” Summer Festival “Baba Vida” (4-13 August 2017). Apart from the fact that the title has not been presented in Bulgaria for the last 80 years, it is interesting that the spectacle is placed in real conditions – on a barge in a river, as the opera action developed on a barge along the Seine.

Two more iconic cultural and historical landmarks in Vidin have become the scene of the summer festival – the Baba Vida Fortress and the Bdintsi Square, where the children’s opera “Shegovichko on the Wonderland Island”, “The Swan Lake” of Tchaikovsky and “Zorba The Greek”.

The Festival is organized for the first time in Vidin, but the intention of the Municipality is to become a traditional event.
