Anguel Zabourtov opened a prestigious exhibition dedicated to the history of the Bulgarian ports and the Bulgarian-French cooperation

28 Юли 2017

In the presence of  French Ambassador H.E. Mr. Eric Lebedel and the Secretary General of the Organization for the Black Sea Economic Cooperation H. E. Mr. Michael Cristidis, the Director General of Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company Mr. Anguel Zabourtov opened the exhibition   France-Bulgarie: Redécouverte de la Mer Noire. Les débuts on 28 July 2017 in Magazia 1 at the port of Burgas.

The organisers of the event are the Diplomatic Institute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the International Trade and Culture Centre GEOPAN. The exhibition will be hosting in Burgas with the assistance of the District Administration and the Municipality of Burgas under the special patronage of BPI Co on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The exhibition, the result of the centuries-old cooperation between France and Bulgaria, shows paintings, ancient photographs of the ports of Burgas and Varna and their headlamps, old geographic and maritime maps of the French cartographic school, journals of travellers and diplomats. The unique exposition tells the story of the construction of the two seaports by French builders and engineers, and their headlamps, erected by French company more than 100 years. The port of Burgas is represented by four panels, and on the poster of the exhibition there is a map of Burgas and Burgas Bay, made two hundred years ago by the Frenchman Tetbu de Marini.

The choice of location of the exhibition is not accidental. The renovated by BPI Co. Magazia 1 is one of the oldest buildings on the harbour. Built in 1906 on the technology of the Eiffel Tower, it is an example of a well-presented story.

The event took place with a great interest and in a crowded hall, and the official part ended with a bell ringing. By an old maritime custom, the French ambassador to Bulgaria struck the bell tower on the French merchant ship "Charles", sailing more than a century ago, and with this symbolic sign announcing a new beginning in the French trade and cultural presence on the Black Sea coast.

Burgas citizens and guests of the city can see the exposition and immerse themselves in the existing history of the Bulgarian ports until August 14, 2017.
