The event took place on June 21, 2017 in conference hall Kaneff Centre.

The meeting organized by BPI Co. took place in the form of open discussion. The problems encountered by the business in transporting cargo along the river were discussed, as well as the possibilities for solving them. Special attention was paid to the stakeholders’ position, as it will contribute significantly to the overall vision and prospects for the future development of the region in relation to water transport.

The DBS Gateway Region Project Leader Ms. Anna Natova – Director Project Management Directorate to BPI Co. and representatives of various institutions discussed the measures to be taken to increase the attractiveness of river transport in the Danube - Black Sea region.

Analysis of results of other project related to water transport and port development were presented during the meeting. The most important recommendation based on the analysis is to maintain and guarantee minimum levels of the fairway.

The DBS Gateway Region project aims to foster cooperation between ports, port operators, public authorities, universities, businesses, freight forwarder, and more in order to increase the attractiveness of the Danube and Black Sea region for sea and inland waterway transport. The idea is for the region to become a “gateway” linking Central Europe and the Black sea with the Caspian region and the Far East.
