First of the kind real-time Monitoring and Information System for Black Sea presented Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company

Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) presented the first of its kind real-time Monitoring and Information System for the Black Sea. It is implemented with the financial support of Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 within the Green Industry Innovation Programme Bulgaria.

In the presence of Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Mr. Velik Zanchev, Programme Director of Innovation Norway – Oslo Ms. Anne Lise Rognlidalen, representatives of the marine and IT business, and experts and experts from different institutions were presented the technical parameters and specifics of the system’s functioning. The final conference on the Monitoring and Information system for the Black Sea took place on 23 May 2017 in Grand hotel Sofia.

The integrated system KNRIN – 2014/108164 Norway Grants 2009-2014 Monitoring and information System for Black Sea. It was built using the successful practices of Norwegian Coastal Administration in development and management of the system BarentsWatch.

MIS of Black Sea is realized by consortium STEMO – ESRI in the form of web portal, supporting multiple specialized web GIS applications. It provides powerful functionality for integration, processing, analysis and visualization of information.

The system allows for real- time collection of data from   large number of sources, including the European Copernicus programme. It integrates and processes data from sensors to automatically measure the parameters of sea water and atmospheric air.

By implementation of the modern system Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company makes a big step towards establishment of common spatial infrastructure of the Black Sea. The innovative system was highly appreciated both locally and internationally.

The successful project is awarded two special awards for outstanding merits in the field of geospatial technologies in Bulgaria and for a special contribution to the development of ecological modern technologies.
