Award in the field of Information Technology for Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company

Special award in the category “Public Sector” received Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company for special contribution to development of ecological modern technology for the monitoring and information system for the Black Sea in the competition IT PROJECT OF THE YEAR 2016 organized by newspaper Computerworld.
The award was presented to the Director General, Mr. Anguel Zabourtov during the ceremony which took place at “Sofia Hotel Balkan” on 21.02.2017.
The competition, which recognizes the most successful IT solutions in Bulgaria, is held for the thirteenth consecutive year.
By introducing the first of its kind in Bulgaria Integrated system for real-time monitoring of the Black Sea, BPI Co. made a big step towards establishing of common spatial infrastructure of the Black Sea.
This is not the first award for the project. In 2016 the innovative System was highly appreciated both on local and international level.
In October 2016 BPI Co. presented the Project on the IV World Meeting of the International Organization University Space Engineering Consortium – UNISEC, which took place in Bulgaria. The meeting was attended by over 150 participants from 31 countries. The world scientists developing the latest space technology were impressed by the monitoring system for the Black Sea and some even express willingness to supply data.
A month later, the innovative project was awarded for outstanding merit in the field of geospatial technology in the country. The Project received the highest prize during the ceremony on the occasion of the World Day of Geographical information Systems where the annual awards for special achievements in the field of GIS were awarded.
The system is unique for Bulgaria – enables collection of real-time data from a number of sources, including from the “Copernicus“. It monitors the status of various parameters of the environment, maritime spaces, coastal, port infrastructure and others. The system’s architecture uses the best practices of the Norwegian Coastal Administration in the development and management of the system BarentsWatch.
The system is implemented with the financial support form the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014, in the frame of the Green industry Innovation Programme Bulgaria. Contractor of the project is Consortium STEMO-ESRI with partners Stemo Ltd and ESRI Bulgaria Ltd.
