Since 1 September, Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) is a new member of the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP).

Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) manages the port infrastructure of the public transport ports of national importance. The object of activity and status of BPI Co. are regulated by Maritime Spaces, Inland Waterways and Ports of the Republic of Bulgaria. BPI Co. has four territorial and three specialized divisions in Burgas, Varna, Lom (picture) and Ruse.

The European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP) brings together more than 200 inland ports and port authorities in 18 countries in the European Union, Switzerland and Ukraine. Since 1994, EFIP has been the voice of the inland ports in Europe.

“As newly associated member of the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP), Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) is ready to join its voice to the wide-spread network of inland ports of the European Union, Switzerland and Ukraine. Furthermore we express our hopes that the membership will fully contribute to strengthening and expanding the role of inland ports as real intermodal nodal points”, said Anguel Zabourtov, Director General of BPI Co.

EFIP President Hans-Peter Hadorn said: “We are delighted to welcome the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company into our association. Bulgarian inland ports are important for EFIP as they are strategically positioned on the cross-point between East-West, North-South. We are looking forward to an active and fruitful cooperation with the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company at the EU-level.”

EFIP Director Alexander van den Bosch said: “I very much welcome the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company at EFIP. I am really looking forward to working with them at the EU-level and believe their involvement and expertise will strengthen our strategic position in Europe.”
