Commissioner Corina Creţu visit RIS center in Ruse

Today, June 15 2015, European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu visit RIS Center Ruse, part of the project Implementation of River Information System in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube RiverBULRIS. The Project is implemented by Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company and is co-funded from the national budget and the European Regional development Fund under Priority Axes 4 of Operational Progarmme on Transport 2007 – 2013. The total grant amount is 26 608 561, 43BGN. The Project is expected to be completed in 2 months.

During the visit to the RIS center in Ruse Ms. Creţu was briefed on the functionality of RIS data in real time and with the progress in the construction by Project Manager Valentin Hristov Dipl. Eng. The meeting attended the Deputy Prime Minister on EU Funds and economic policy Tomislav Donchev, Director General of BPI Co. Anguel Zabourtov and Deputy Director General Stilian Krotnev.

Implementation of RIS system in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube River project will result  in a river information system in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube River to collect, process, control and disseminate geodetical, meteorological and statistical data concerning to navigation on the Danube. The organization of the RIS system and provision of full range services will lead to overcome the difficulties in passing the critical areas in the region and increase the level of navigational safety, which will make inland waterway transport on the Danube more effective and contribute to environmental protection.

The visit of Commissioner Corina Creţu is part of the two-day visit in Bulgaria. Focal point is the investments made by the EU cohesion policy in the development of Bulgaria with full use of the remaining funds in the period of 2014–2020.
